There's nothing as serene and beautiful as a flickering hearth on a cold winter day. However, there is always danger when you intentionally create a fire inside your home. Therefore it is important to invest in safety equipment to keep fire hazards to a minimum, and the easiest way to prevent these exposure risks is to invest in a fireplace screen.
Blaze Barriers
When it comes to firesides, everyone enjoys the flash of the flames and the snap, crackle, and pop of the wood. And even though a hearth is designed to control these elements, if you have a wood-burning unit you may find occasional debris entering into the room. So a fireplace screen is the best way to create a barrier between the blaze and your home:
Scorches and Singes: When wood is being consumed, sometimes embers, sparks, and cinders could pop out of the hearth. So these partitions protect your wooden floors and expensive carpets from any ash that could stain or burn your flooring.
Keep Hands Out: If you have inquisitive kids or rambunctious pets, these dividers separate the flames from the curious wanderings of those who don't know any better.
Wind Resistance: Sometimes a burst of wind from outside can fly through your chimney and enter into the room. In order to keep your home energy efficient, these fire separators guard against any wind interference you may encounter.
Home Decoration
Although fireplace screens are mostly functional, they also provide beauty to your room. They come in many types of designs, from the contemporary to the traditional, and can be customized to match your home décor. Choose an ornamental style with artistic flourishes. Or get one that will blend in with your color scheme. If you don't want it to become a focal point, maybe buy a simple mesh model that can become invisible to the eye. If you have a gas unit, sometimes fireplace screens can even come with kits, which supply logs, log holders, and other fire utensils as well. There are limitless choices out there to select from, and even though the most common option is a freestanding, metal product that serves to protect and beautify your home, there are also glass models available.
Glass Guide
Glass paneled barriers are great for decoration and they can also come with stained glass to enhance the ambience of fire itself. Before you buy one though, you will want to decide how it will be used in your home. If you want it to simply be a decoration, glass would be great for faux fires. Plus they can cover up the cold, unsightly look of a darkened hearth during the summer months. However, if you want them to remain functional as well, make sure the glass you choose has been tempered to withstand the heat before making your purchase. Otherwise, rather than preventing a fire hazard, you could actually be installing a larger one by accident.
